It is easy to get into a rut when you’re stuck at home, so I encourage you all to try each of these workout apps for the next 7 days and pick your favorite! 7 workout apps in 7 days! Let’s go!
I am also excited because throughout my quest to find the best home FREE fitness app, I’ve been pleasantly surprised about how many are out there! Once things normalize and we’re allowed back into gyms, I will continue using some of these apps to switch up my fitness routine. If you do not have access to an affordable gym, definitely try these out. These fitness apps are also a great option for those of you who travel often and do not have access to a gym on your trips. I will definitely be using these during my future expeditions once traveling becomes safer!
Here are 7 of the best FREE at home fitness apps for your quarantine days!
In the list of at-home workouts I have included apps that are great for yoga, running, strength and bootcamp style workouts! One of the most significant changes to my routine these past few weeks of “social distancing” has been switching a gym workout to an at-home workout. I normally go to my local gym and lift weights 2-3 times a week and attend group fitness classes like cycle and HIT twice a week. Being surrounded by people who are determined to get fit pushes me throughout my workout so exercising on my own at home has been tough for me to get accustomed to. I also do not have ANY equipment at home so I had to find apps that could provide effective bodyweight workouts. If you’re like me- I would recommend checking out these apps below and inviting your friends to join you through FaceTime or Skype! The accountability of your friends will help you stay on track, and it will be a fun way to get some socialization in!
If you have any others that you recommend- please let me know and I will try them out! A few of these have free trials due to the outbreak, but are otherwise paid.
This is my favorite app so far! It is completely free and has a huge variety of workouts- yoga, HIT, strength, pilates, barre, prenatal, postnatal, etc! They even have options to search by “no equipment” or “small space” which is awesome for those of you in smaller apartments! I like this app because the trainers are doing the exercises alongside you throughout the whole workout so it feels like you have your own virtual trainer! They encourage you through each exercise and push you to finish the session.

2. Peloton
One of my favorite things about this app is that the videos are recorded as if the trainers are working out WITH you so it feels like a personalized bootcamp! They have hundreds of workouts to choose from including running, cycle strength, dance parties, bootcamps, yoga, and cardio! They have workouts that require weights but they also have bodyweight options.
The Peloton trainers will push you as if you’re right there with them and you do not have to worry about timing the exercises yourself. They also have a running option and the trainers encourage you throughout your run. The main downside of this app is that a lot of their workouts are surrounding a treadmill, but you can substitute that portion for jumping jacks or other cardio exercises (scroll to the end of the article to get some fun cardio options).
Price: Free 90 day trial due to the pandemic (normally it’s 30 days) and $12.99/mo afterwards
3. Down Dog App
This app is truly revolutionary. They have yoga, HIT, barre and 7 minute workout versions of the app as well. The apps allow you to completely customize your workout. You do not need to spend time looking for a workout you’re in the mood for, after you fill out their criteria they will customize a workout and video to guide you! You have an option to customize by level, yoga style, workout style, music, area of focus, and length of class!
Price: Free until May 1st 2020 due to the Pandemic. Free until July 1st 2020 to all students, teachers and healthcare professionals. $7.99/mo afterwards.
This app has workouts focusing on cardio, HIT, strength and mobility! They also have a Nike Run Club app which gives you the motivation you need on your next run (especially for all of my Florida people, it’s hot out here!)
Price: Free trial for 1 week and $14.99/mo afterwards
5. Daily Yoga
This yoga app is awesome because it allows you to pick through programs like “Middle Split Challenge” and “10 Day Expansive Flexibility” so you can focus on a specific aspect of yoga. They have options that target different parts of your body and different levels. Each program has animations to guide you through the poses!
Price: Free trial for 1 week and afterwards it is $12.99/mo
6. Sweat App
This app has a variety of trainers you can choose from! If you’re on Instagram- you may have seen advertisements for Kayla Itsines and her BBG program! You can have access to her workouts through this app as well as a few other trainers. They have different levels of programs specializing in upper body, lower body and core. The one downside to this app is that it is geared towards people who own some equipment like resistance bands and dumbbells. But, you can modify the exercises and do them with your bodyweight or substitute the weights for common household items.
Price: Free trial for 1 month and $19.99/mo afterwards
This app has a free version and it shows you the images of the workouts, but not video examples. This app is a great option if you’d like to go at your own pace and not have to follow along with a trainer. It does have timers in place for each exercise for you to use. They have options ranging from weight loss, cardio, and strength building.

Throughout my research, I have discovered that it is pretty difficult to find at-home workouts for upper body and arms (besides push-ups which are not my favorite). This area is harder to target without using equipment, but I have been pleased with the Blogilates at-home arm workouts that you can find on her Instagram and Youtube channel.
Another trainer I have been following for a while now is Hannah Bower. She used to be a gymnast and has her CPT. She has many great at-home workout options found on her Instagram and some paid programs on her website. My favorite are the ones where she uses common household items like laundry detergent to substitute for weights. (I personally do not own my own weights so I am glad she provided options for me).
If you are more interested in yoga- I have been doing Bohobeautiful’s yoga classes for years now. She has yoga and pilates based workouts, as well as gentle yoga styles like Yin Yoga. She takes her yoga videos all around the world- and while we’re stuck at home we can feel like we’re traveling with her! Check out her Youtube channel and her website.
If these workouts are too much for you, I also recommend the below activities to keep your body moving during this quarantine!
- Rollerblading– I have been rollerblading since elementary school! It is a great leg workout and a fun way to get your cardio in (and explore your neighborhood)
- Power walk– Enjoy the sunshine and go on a power walk around your neighborhood (if your government allows you to)
- Tennis – If your tennis courts are still open, this is a fun way to see your friends while being far apart (tennis courts are 78 feet long!).
We will get through this COVID-19 pandemic together, and hopefully these at home workouts help you stay healthy and happy!
